Why do material things matter?

As the title says. Why do material things matter? Why do we place so much value of stuff that actually has so little importance?
If you can imagine it then you can achieve it

I see what you mean Ash, but do material things really have so little importance? We are all different, and for some people material things have not much meaning (yours truly is one), but for others they are a matter of utmost importance. There are those for whom spiritual wealth is the stuff of life, for others it's the prestige and respect that comes from being successful and wealthy. Who is to say which one is unimportant?
So I think that whatever is important or meaningless depends on who with what kind of mindset and background is looking at it. Some say that to refuse wealth and materialism is a virtue, but is it? Or it's simply a choice? :)

well, im a very material person but im also fine with all the simple things in life, i think the reason money and nice worldly posessions are so important to me is because of the comfort we get from them, whether they aid us in physical comfort or just look good they comfort us, lately a lot of my money has gone to my vehicle, video games, lunch while working, and ciggarettes
sure, my vehicle doesnt NEED a new paint job but it will improve the appearance, it doesnt need an insane sound system but i would enjoy it, i dont need video games but its nice to just relax and kick some a** on halo, i could go home and eat lunch but id rather just buy something and go eat by the river access, and as for ciggs.. well, ha, they keep my sanity
i also think people often get a sense of security when they are "sitting pretty," because money can buy a lot, and a lot of stress comes from lack of money, if you are wealthy you dont need to worry about that stuff making you feel safe in your gorgeous estate with marble floors and 3 maids lol idk about you but that would just make me ESTATIC
could be a personality issue to, greed, ill be the first to admit im greedy, im working in general contracting, i HAVE to be greedy, i work about 12 hours a day and take a day off MAYBE once every 2-3 weeks just to see that money come in and that makes me feel, well, comfortable

Today's Abraham-Hicks quote of the day:

"You want the desire because it is the idea or the goal or the Creation that is responsible for a good amount of Life Force to flow through you. The main event is the Life Force that is flowing through you, not the manifestation. And if you don't believe us now, wait until that manifestation has popped, and realize that its power to draw life through you will be greatly diminished. That's why you keep wanting another goal and another goal and another goal...
--- Abraham

I feel much the same way...its a comfort kinda thing...I get comfort when I wear clothes that I feel look good cuz its a boost to my confidence and I also enjoy the comfort factor literally of comfortable clothes...I get comfort and pleasure when I look at my treasured ornaments cuz they are nice to look at and it helps knowing that I own 'em cuz I get rather attached to 'em as a matter of fact...in some cases ornaments can even hold memories in the same way photos do...the downside to being attached to material possessions is the suffering factor when they are lost in one way or another...the more attached one is to material possessions the worse the suffering is I reckon...

just my 2 cents worth...
