Tools, symbols, rituals, etc are useful in that they act as a focus for the will and intentions of the person using them.
Also, just having those tools around, or anything you create from the ritual, is going to be a visual reminder for you. Every time you see it, you will be reminded of your goal, and therefore you put more thought/energy into it

I guess one could call that a "tool", device, instrament, etc, etc...
I don't believe it to be white or black magic...only a ritual using something that's sacred to them.
The Power of Smudging:
How can smudging be so powerful? The answer lies in the subatomic world of subtle or spiritual energy. Homes and bodies are not just made of purely physical matter; they also vibrate with quiet, invisible energy.
Cleansing a space or our bodies with techniques such as smudging clears away all the emotional and psychic 'garbage' that may have gathered over the years or even hundreds of years. it's like spiritual spring cleaning.
The effects of smudging can be surprisingly swift and dramatic. The rituals I will post in following lessons can help you banish stress, attract love, sooth you, or give you energy.
They can bring your family closer together and let you adjust to the healing seasonal rhythms of the year. Above all they can turn any space, however humble, into a soothing sanctuary - a place of renewal and happiness. In the following lessons, I will attempt to combine smudging with techniques from other ancient traditions to provide a totally holistic approach.

Her land is sacred (as in sacred Native America land) and she grows it there for her self...and has loads of it!
I wish I had been more alert...from your post saying you'd like to try it. I would/could have offered. Sorry I didn't think of it (brain freeze)
If you'd still like some of this sage, I'd be happy to send you some when I get back up there in mid Aug...
Fact, she has so much there, when I have a bonfire for her, I toss some of it in there too...I lOVE the smell of it.
She does the whole tobacco offering and all at our bonfires. She's got strong Native American ties
