LOL

(but, I somehow think some cathlic priest would say that...lol)

Me thinks it's due in part because he has learned how to connect "all that he is" together.
Using his higher consciousness with his subconsciousness, consciousness with lower consciousness.
(merge the ID, ego, lower consciousness, thoughts, and feelings with the higher self)

Though, still a man...I'm sure he still needs to remind himself from time to time, it's still all perception.
And that through adversity his people are gaining much wisdom and strength....

Its a choice....

yes and no. suffering is not only an emotional response but also can be a physical one: you shoot me in the foot - i don't have the choice for it to not hurt. i do have the choice how to deal with it - cry, swear, accept, suppress etc.etc.

If he means that there is suffering by way of people die, we lose things we are attached to...then I get it...

you get it. it was observing these causes of suffering that led him to seek enlightenment.

Dont attach yourself to any one thing.
Not a belief, not an idea, or experience, emotion, feeling or thought.

the heart sutra. the heart sutra, the heart sutra, the heart sutra! did i mention the heart sutra? find a good commentary, sit down, read, meditate, reflect.

Just seems strange to me that he would throw it out there like that...

buddha adopted his teachings to the audience he was teaching and how well he thought they would be able to understand - suffering is something we have all experienced so immediately there is something we can relate to in the teaching. if he'd leapt right in with the twelve links of co-dependent arising or the five aggregates he would have lost the average joe blow such as meself. although he sought not to win converts, none the less he did want the teachings to be accessible to all, regardless of age, sex, caste, education etc etc.

so, there will always be suffering

yes, that's the way i see it too...but the bodhisattva vow involves promising not to stop being reborn until every last blade of grass is liberated from suffering. but then, you start considering the bodhisattva path and yer head really gets blown! - in liberating others they realise no liberation took place as there was nothing to liberate in the first place.

oooo....kay

i'll think it's probably best if i came back to that further on in my understanding lol.

right, i'm away fer a while. it's been fun, tatty bye!

^^ okay, erm i made that last post. what have i done? help!

two versions -

1) as a mod, the edit button is placed right next to the quote button on the control panel. guess which one dumbass here meant to press and which one he actually did press!

2) i was teaching alchy a valuable lesson about non-attatchment regarding the post she made!

i prefer the second version for obvious reasons.
